Apart from my work with my own band I am always interested in new projects, so if you need a drummer-percussionist for recording/performing, or if you wish to book me for a drum workshop, please get in touch!

Musical Details:

Background: Started drumming at the age of 10, and worked with local bands. Aged 20, moved around the country working with various musicians and bands. Moved back to Oxfordshire in my mid 20's to work with the Idle Experts, and Timeless.

Gary has recorded at the following: Foel Studios, Woodworm Studios, Blue Moon Studios, The Old Smithy Studios, Dungeon Studios, and Timeless Studios.

Worked Alongside: The Real Thing, Snowy White's Blues Agency (ex Thin Lizzy), The Ground Hogs, Screaming Lord Sutch, The Boogie Brothers (bass player from Status Quo), Ocean Colour Scene, and members of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

I have also performed drum clinics with the following drummers: Mark Mondesir (Roxy Music, Courtney Pine), Crissy Lee (Frank Skinner Show), Dave Mattacks (Fairport Convention, Elton John), Chuck Silverman (Zildjian clinician/master teacher). My work has also included shows and radio.

I am a professional drummer playing, teaching, writing articles for DRUM STUDY and on the internet for CYBER-DRUM, plus recording.

I have gigged in the UK, France, Poland, and Germany. I perform drum clinics in association with Zildjian International and Sonor Drums. In 1994 some of my students played at the Fairport Convention annual Oxfordshire CROPREDY FESTIVAL, Europe's largest Folk/Rock festival. I have also played a gig in the presence of RINGO STARR (drummer for the Beatles) at the wedding of his sister-in-law. Plus a gig at Woodstock - a private party at Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire, home of the Duke of Marlborough.

And I have played with members of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

Mission statement:

My mission statement or goal in life is to bring to everyone the message of FUN WHEN YOU DRUM!, in particular life’s disadvantaged people. I have always felt blessed to have a god-given talent, and I wish to use this talent to bring my message of what learning to play percussion (with the focus on the drum kit) can do for anyone and everyone. Learning to have FUN WHEN YOU DRUM! has many physical and mental benefits, improving long term memory by up to 70%. Clem Burke, drummer for Blondie, has conducted a study that shows the health benefits on your heart whilst drumming in performance situations. It may sound strange but I feel that I am on a life-long crusade to bring the benefits of FUN WHEN YOU DRUM! to as many people as I can in my lifetime, and I hope this will endure for future generations. This will be my legacy.

My work has included and will continue to include workshops for people who are mentally handicapped, people who have special needs (I have a soft spot for children with Autism, who can benefit from the many forms of repetition found in drumming), young offenders, and people with dementia and all forms of mental health problems. So far I have worked with Mencap, Oxfam, Unicef, Lambert Special School (Stratford-Upon-Avon), HMP Onley (young offenders), Oxford University, youth clubs, primary and secondary schools (both state and private), and music shops. I hope to expand this as much as possible in the future.
